Next morning, had a whole Pad of Frogs come onboard to attempt to fix the problems which had occurred with the boat. A new mainsail ( better cloth, better cut, better battens) … steering cable guides replaced and readjusted … reconfigure the electronics … repair the electric winch on the cabin top … amongst a whole slurry of other things. The guys were great … I only heard a couple of “Putain!”s and “Merde!” s.
They have a slightly different work ethic here … when it’s lunchtime, everything stops for a couple of hours … then they come back, work a little more … then it’s time to pack up and come back on Monday! I think they have a marginal 35 hour week here which becomes effectively a 24 hour week.
However, I still love the place. My god … the food … is fabulous … and cheap. The wine … well, what can I say … a bottle of chateauneuf-du-pape, 2011, at the local supermarket ..€15 … honestly, the prices we pay in Aus are absolutely bullshit! The Australian government is Ripping us Off! In fact, we are paying far too much to those lazy good-for-nothing arseholes in Canberra, and in the State capitals. As Patton said, “they’re like a broken cannon … they don’t work and you can’t fire them!”
But then, Australians deserve the governments they get. Enough already … I’m starting to get up on my soapbox … but then … you know, if Kruddy can make a comeback, then maybe Peter Costello could put in an appearance as well … then we really could have a comedy of a country featuring “Abbot and Costello”!
Shut up, shut up, shut up .. Steve!
