Had a nice stroll around Les Sables d’Olonne yesterday … had a “promenade sur la plage” ( they actually have sand here, instead of the pebbles and shale you see in the UK) … lots of pretty little historic fishing boats out with their owners all dressed up in their Fisherman’s smocks … I also took lots of photos of the Volvo Ocean boats, the Vendee Globe boats, etc.
Liz and Rod took me to a part of the old town where the walls of the houses have been decorated with shell art … apparently, many years ago, one of the inhabitants began doing some shell art outside her house, and before long, everyone started doing it. I know it sounds kitsch … but it really is quite lovely, and has become something of a tourist attraction. Liz was saying that in Nantes there is beautiful “graffiti” art on the garage doors and shop front shutters … not like the bullshit “tagging” we get in Australia. Awesome cake shop in the old town as well … unfortunately it is closed until July … bugger …. can’t wait here until it opens.
Hopefully, the electronics guy will be finished early tomorrow and we can get underway for Spain. A good 30 – 36 hour run from here to Gijon.
